California: Fonda Restaurant (Berkeley)

You would probably remember Paul Burgerhart from a couple Portland bands years ago, but we won't be re-hashing the past for you here. Just let it be known that he has a "freak folk" voodoo doll and uses it:

Last night me and several companions went to this place. They have a happy hour menu that includes a Cuban Mini-Burger with chorizo, mustard, and sweet potato fries. Also three slices of tart, crunchy pickle on it. The chorizo is mixed in with the burger meat, giving it a spicy, smoky flavor. As you can see from the picture, the thin sweet potato fries are right on the burger and you'd think they'd be pointy and pokey, but they actually blend in and add a nice texture to the burger.

Of the 5 and 6 buck items on the Happy Hour menu (which includes a couple different kindsa tacos and mayan hot sauce hot wings), this is the best with the big, strong margaritas. My companion liked the wings a lot. There are also 8 other 5-dollar drink specials, some of them are semi-fancy. Liveley, noisy, fun place.
