Las Vegas: Burger Bar

VeganMac (from the Portland website OnPDX hits 8 the hard way and finds a Vegan burger in Vegas....yep!:

Being Vegan in Las Vegas is like being a nun at a strip club..

This burger is THE Vegan burger at the Burger Bar (and possibly the only Vegan burger in Las Vegas) at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. The Burger is two portabello mushroom caps with sauteed vegitables between them (Eggplant, Red Pepper, Zucchini). The guy I was with lives in Texas and he snapped this picture because he didn't think anyone in Texas would believe such a burger could ever exist.

It was mighty tastey.

The cost for the burger a whopping $15.45 with tax and tip!

Fulton Pub

ProgressiveBurger visits our local real estate developers (when does the new one open downtown again?) built from fleece and sandals:

For years I complained that there was no vegetarian burger option for happy hour. Every Friday I became more and more distraught. I had to pay $6.75 for a Boca or Gardenburger while my workmates paid $3.50 for a happy hour meat slab o a bun. Last January my years of weekly outrage and complaints paid off, they added the Boca or Gardenburger option to the happy hour menu! And at $3.90 it was a bargain. Comes with the standard greasy Micminimal's fries and order it without the "secret sauce" and a vegan option is born.

Macadam's

Lets call him ProgressiveBurger (what, you don't like early Genesis?.........ears and a heart) and he doesn't put meat to the face:

This is about the only vegetarian option at another wise normal boring SW Portland restaurant. I ordered mine without dairy so it was minus the cheese and "secret sauce". The fries are plain, the sandwich itself was quite good. Vegan on a business lunch rating of "Make sure they pay."

Laurelthirst Public House

nananananannananana nanan.....batman and veggie burgers. GrillMaster has the com..uh...er....some kind of sonic cellphone:

Quadburger and I stopped by the Laurelthirst Public House on Glisan for two of their sin verggie burgers, which are a homemade patty made out of sunflower seed, walnuts, and some other stuff with bacon, swiss, and cheddar on top with the usual lettuce, tomato and onions on onion roll.

We got the spicy ones which throw in some chipolte and corn into the mix... a little too much chipolte this time (i could still taste it while eating ice cream 2 hours later) but whatever... you can have potato chips, potato salad, green salad, or a cup of beans as a side... Too bad they don't make fries, seems like they would do a great job at making them... excellent beer selection too! I'll be back, that's for sure...

Life of Riley

Formerly Everett Street Tavern (and the Blah Blah Cafe), then a stint as Jimmy Mac's, and now Life of Riley. Hamburgler and RarePattie get some:

Eh. The half-pounder is big, and it's filling, but is oddly dense. It's $9.00, not bad, but nothing really special.

RarePattie had the veggie burger of beans and rice and liked the "masculine" decor. Nicely done and huge as well.

Links: Portland Vegan Reubens

There is a new Portland food blog out there: Portland Vegan Reubens

Always thought we had a narrow lens...proven wrong. Would be funny to see Kenny & Zuke's or Rose's show us what they got in that department (car.....game on!).

Now we have to eat more food.

Calypso

Hamburgler visits the Caribbean restaurant merry-go-round in Belmont's land of coffee shops (how many more can open around there?):

Ehh. Was hoping they would have some kind of themed burger to go with all the Caribbean/Creole/Hawaiian theme. Nope. They do have guacamole for the burger though.

The bun was dry as a bone and grainy/mealy. Eck. Take a bite, sip the water, water runs out, douse it in ketchup. The burger, well, nevermind.

Ordered a lot of extra "done", and they didn't even charge for it either (see ticket).

They have a Gardenburger too.

Sam's Billiards

Hamburgler:

You wouldn't think it, but this place gets abstract with their burger. There is the "Sam's Burger" that is breakfast in a sandwich with swiss, cheddar, ham, egg, and hashbrowns all on the burger.

That first one is a "Blue Cheese Bacon Burger" with added grilled onion for $7.25.

That second one is something different. "Mike's 57 Chevy Burger" with honey (yep, honey), bacon, Heinz 57 sauce and Pepperjack cheese for $6.50.

They also have Gardenburgers, and a Halibut Burger.

My Father's Place

Look's like Pickles & Ammo and the Hamburgler get their drinking training wheels on for lunch:

This is fill-er-up, soak up the alcohol, hangover cure-all, grease bomb that comes cheap. It's not going to win any awards, but it does but a brick back in your belly.

Burgers start at $4.50 with fries (add only 25 cents for Gardenburger, boca available as well). That first one up there is a Bacon Mushroom Swiss that takes $5.75 to get on board. That next one is their "Western Bacon Cheese Burger" with bbq sauce and onion rings for $6.25.

They also have a colon clogger, the "My Father's Place Special Burger" with bacon, ham, 2 cheeses, and an egg.

New Old Lompoc

Hamburgler:

They got a nice one here. Seen above in the wild is their cheeseburger that comes in around $7.50 with fries. They use some kind of green plant to dress up their secret sauce (its not ketchup/mayo/relish) and its different, but delicious....could have been basil although I couldn't be sure (yep, I don't really read the menus anymore.....just say "cheeseburger" and it magically arrives at my seat....kind of like throwing lightning bolts at LARP gatherings)

It's bit different, but one of the better burgers around town at that price.
