New burgers from the new person MoreBurgerThanBun:
Since I work in the Pearl finding a good "diner style" burger is tough - and tougher yet to get one at a reasonable price. But I am not discouraged and continue my quest. That quest took me today to Nancy's Kitchen. They had a sign in their somewhat small dining room proclaiming theirs to be "the best burgers in town" with a reference to the A&E (I'm assuming that's the Oregonian's arts & entertainment section).
With that ringing endorsement I waited fervently for my cheeseburger. (You only get the add-in option of cheese here, too - cheddar, swiss, and pepperjack). For $8+ I was hoping for something spectacular. When the smaller plate arrived I was a bit disappointed. Although, to be honest, I could use smaller portions.
The burger was good, indeed done properly in the diner-style, with a liberal application of special-sauce. You certainly don't get eight dollars' worth of burger but it's still good. It does come with a side of chips which you can sub out with homemade potato salad or coleslaw for $2.39, though. Again, not a cheap meal by any standard but a good one, nonetheless.

This place is huge. Nicely done. Just look at the size of that HVAC system and enough copper to keep you playing Grand Theft Scrap Metal Thief for a year. We are suppose to say something about their great beers, right?
That first one is the "Classic Cheeseburger with a Twist". $10.50 for 1/3 # natural beef (still not sure what that means though) marinated in Island Spices with Gruyere Cheese, House Pickles, Tomato, Grilled Red Onion, Mayo, and Pub Mustard. A bit different, not bad at all, acceptable price for the nature of the Pearl I would think.
The second one is an "Elk Burger". Natural Elk Patty with Roasted Shallot, Thyme Aioli, and Gruyere Cheese for $11.95. Of course it was a bit gamey, its elk........car.........game on.

Formerly Everett Street Tavern (and the Blah Blah Cafe), then a stint as Jimmy Mac's, and now Life of Riley. Hamburgler and RarePattie get some:
Eh. The half-pounder is big, and it's filling, but is oddly dense. It's $9.00, not bad, but nothing really special.
RarePattie had the veggie burger of beans and rice and liked the "masculine" decor. Nicely done and huge as well.

BunsOfGlory might just be a hater, but its hard not to love the business savvy it takes to cut costs with Bud Bowl glassware:
SirBurgersALot and I hopped into the local Buffalo Wild Wings for a burger and a beer. It was just about the plainest burger I've ever had. Absolutely nothing special. The fries tasted like those that I buy in the supermarket.

AmericanCheese finds a burger down the street from where he probably spent his youth in a warehouse in 1993 raving up super (anyways, he spelled "oldschool" with a "k"..lets leave happy hardcore in the bins) :
Oldskool coffee shop in now what is considered the "Pearl", but you wouldn't know you were in yuppieville by spending time in this place. Great service, good breakfasts, and seriously, some of the best seafood specials in the city. Fresh panfried razor clams, fries, and slaw for $7.50? Wow.
But we went for the burger. I'll keep it simple. Good burger, made to order. You'll be mad if you don't like pickles though, It seems like they put a whole jar on mine.

Recently while in Portland I was taken care of by some really amazing folks. In the process I was introduced to Kenny & Zuke's heavenly PASTRAMI BURGER. Not only was the pastrami fresh and the beef moist, but there's an impressive drink menu with regional, premium and even throwback sodas. Excuse the camera phone, it's all i had on me.
Shout out to coco & the crew! Can't wait to be back!!
From the size of the lunch crowd this place was serving up more hot beef then the fella's cruising by.
What you see there is a Pastrami Burger (its hiding under the cheese) with Swiss touching down at $11.75. Its was great. Bloody. And, had SpecialSauce giggling something about chocolate in her peanut butter.
They also have a regular burger for $8.50 with fries, cole slaw, or potato salad. Add cheddar, swiss, avocado, sauteed mushrooms, or carmelized onions for $1.00 a pop.
That sandwich was a whopper. A "Deli Club" with pastrami, turkey, swiss, tomato, and a price tag of $12.25.
Sir Burgers-A-Lot (from PDX Pipeline) and BunsOfGlory are hard to please:
Sir Burgers A Lot: I had the bacon cheeseburger. If this is what burgers always tasted like, I would quit them. $eight
BunsOfGlory: Extremely plain-tasting burger. I had a "cajun" burger and it tasted like a normal burger. Very unimpressed.

Jake's Grill in the Governor's Hotel has a fantastic Happy Hour, which is from 3 - 6 p.m. and 9:30 till closing. One of the mainstays, which I order about once a week during their later hours is a 1/2 pound cheeseburger, cooked to order with fries for a $1.95.
Crisp lettuce,onions and freshly cut tomatoes are on the side along with fantasticmarinated pickles. My Black and Tan runs me an additional $5. The waiting staff is fantastic and very cute. Gino behind the bar pours fantastic drinks.
