Doug Fir

Hamburgler stopped in and had some burger action with the manager (who went with the pesto chicken sandwich above....gasp!...and has yet to come up with a burger-alias).

The "Fir Burger" is $7.50. I like the choice of cheese: Tillamook Cheddar, Gruyere, Jack, or Blue Cheese. Usual suspects, with fries, salad, or soup as a side. You can choose your patty pleasure as well: 8oz beef, ground turkey, buffalo, or garden.

Bonus Pickle!

Twilight Room

Portland Hamburgler "AmericanCheese" sends in this sandwich layered with familar items. Yep, a hamburger.

The burger is pretty damn good...Burger pic is of the basic Tillamook cheeseburger. Good stuff...next time I'm gonna step to the "Super T burger".

And if you like a football or baseball game on the tv at all times, this is your place. They have like a gazillion of them.

Links: Junior Ambassador's

What a delicious way to top off a burger. Ice Cream. "Hamburgler" and "RarePattie" traveled to Junior's Ambassador's that hails from Mostlandia. They have "Corn on the Cobb" ice cream. You wouldn't think it, but its delicious. Tried the "Bluegrass" (vegan) and the almond as well: almond milk, almond extract, and roasted almonds....thats a lot a almonds. You can also get the ice cream in sandwich form (thats almost like a hamburger....right?)

Junior Ambassador also has a selection of foods from Mostlandia that look like they would be better living inside of you then in their current home.

I'm not exactly sure where Mostlandia is? Is it a micronation, or in their own words:

Mostlandia is a fantastic psycho-geographic location that exists between the locations of the four members of the M.O.S.T. The M.O.S.T. are physical portals to the realm of Mostlandia, but other intermittent and temporal portals to Mostlandia are known to exist

Burger Tour: ERS-ONE / Magneto

Former Portlander, Pony shoes designer, and International DJ Magneto aka ERS-ONE comes through with a some tour burger madness while going through the midwest (and now working his way up the West Coast to Portland, then back down through Mexico). He highlights his Chi-Town top three. Check him out at the Goodfoot the first Friday of every month for B-Boy jams.

You can download one of his new mixes "Latin Safari" for free if you like as well.

Oh. And he prefers to be now known as: "The BurgerBlogger"

It's all about Kuma's Corner. The burger I had was "The Clutch". Four kinds of cheese (cheddar, jack, swiss, and smoked Gouda) that work perfectly with the 1/2 handmade patty slighlty seasoned (not sure with what), and the bun was a Pertzel bread. Perfect. Worth the wait for a table

All burgers are named after a metal band. All $10, and with excellent seasoned fries.

"The Clutch"

"The Clutch" locked and loaded

The "Neurosis" burger with swiss and mushrooms.

Harry Caray's.
They have one burger option, a hand made patty seasoned well. The sauteed onions and mushrooms went well with it, fries we're good, and Goose Island beers went well with it too,. $12

The man himself and his delicious burgers:

The third best burger I had was at Clarke's.

It was a good standard burger. well presented, but it wasn't super tastey, not even a 4:40am drunk.

Emanon

I'm not sure what this place is. It's one of those cafe/restaurant/bar/bistro places with a burger on the menu.

1/3 lb. ground chuck, onion bun, usual suspects, pesto mayo, and fries for $7.75. Ehh! Pesto mayo seems like an odd condiment, and it was to this American pallet.

The Maiden (formerly Maiden In The Mist)

A couple Portland Hamburglers meet up in search of sliders and ended up at The Maiden. Well, as it happens our own "PattyPusher" was up on the grill (not much of a surprise) exclaiming "photo time in the kitchen....I make sexy." [ Who gets you hot kitchen burger action....Portland Hamburglers..thats who ]

The Maiden has three burger configurations that come with chips or salad (no fries).

"Burgertime" "SpecialSauce" and the "Hamburgler" went with the sliders. These were great. Carmilized onions and cheddar dressed at $6.00/per 3 (or $4.00/per 3 at happy hours 3 to 6pm and 12 to 2am).

"HoldEverything" went with the Maiden Burger for $8.00. Chevre, roasted garlic, mushrooms, and natural beef sounded like a good way to top off a 45 mile bike ride.

They also have a cheeseburger for $7.00 and happy hour bucket of 5 Millers for $5.00 (full bar too).

Bonus Pickle!

Links: Hamburger Productivity

Nate's Productivity Tips shows us how to use the "Hamburger method" when offering constructive crictism (I think we are more interested in whats going in with that burger though).

I personally think that productivity burger might go down a bit easier with butter leaf lettuce instead of that....wait what is that?..red leaf lettuce on there? Tomato in the middle of a double patty? That burger is suspect! (But, you are delicious.....see I'm already using the "Hamburger Method").

I'll fit it in with my GTD reading next time around.

Homemade: Gorgonzola Stuffed Hamburgers

Lelo in Nopo (and from here on known by her burger name: Whataburger! ) chimes in with this piece of homegrown Portland deliciousness. How'd she do it already:

It might disappoint you some to learn they come from a recipe in Cooking Light magazine for Grilled Blue Cheese Burgers. The secret is to shape the patties the night before and chill 'em. And since I prefer gorgonzola to blue cheese, well, it's gorgonzola.

2 1 oz slices country white bread
2 T fat free milk
1/2 t salt
1/2 t black pepper
2 lbs lean ground sirloin
1/2 cup crumbled gorgonzola cheese
cooking spray
8 hamburger rolls ( I like the kaisers from New Seasons)

Prep grill. Place bread in food processor; process 30 seconds or until finely ground. Place breadcrumbs in a large bowl. Add milk, toss with a fork to moisten. Add salt, pepper, and beef to breadcrumb mixture, stirring just until combined. Divide meat mixture into 16 equal portions, shaping each into a 3 1/2 inch patty. Spoon 1 T cheese in the center of each of 8 patties; top each with 1 remaining patty, pinching edges to seal.

Place patties on grill rack coated with cooking spray, grill 4 minutes on each side or until desired degree of doneness.

Last year I made a similar burger to this, but added to it grilled apples on top. Sweet sweet jesus. That was good.

Links: Super Sized Meals

They have some big burger action over at Super Sized Meals. They are taking burgers to the next level.

Hamburgers as a pizza topping. Yep.

If that doesn't do it for you...how about this thing:

Supersized Calorie Creation will bring sharp pains of joy to your heart. It's a hot dog, wrapped in cheese, mince, bacon, and grilled on the BBQ

How could you not bring the "Luther Burger" into the mix as well. Yes, those are donuts, and not buns

And lets not leave the vegetarians out of the mix. They like a big meal sometimes as well. Delicious.

Michoacan

Continued tour of Portland Mexican restaurant hamburgers.

I originally planned on getting some tacos, but with a Hamburguesa on the menu I can't help myself. This cheeseburger comes in at $6.00 with fries. It was big, I would think almost a 1/2 pounder handmade patty, american cheese, and the usual suspects. I don't expect much from a Mexican restaurant when it comes to hamburgers, but they usually come with a cheap price, shucks. I'll spare you anymore commentary.

Links: Get Sconed!

Uh Oh! Moving into uncharted territories here on Portland Hamburgers. Yep, its vegan time. You have to get creative to come up with some good vegi-burgers or vegan burgers. These burgers by Jess of the great Portland vegan food blog Get Sconed! are lookin' to get eaten.

Check out this action:

Italian influenced grilled portabella burger - with tomato/basil traditional bruschetta topping, roasted red peppers, greens, vegenaise and basil. The shroom was marinated in balsamic vinegar, olive oil, fresh basil, dried oregano and tamari. On the side is what may have been my last local asparagus of the seasons, roasted with olive, oil, sea salt & fresh ground pepper.

Then we get this contender:
PPK test kitchen Black Bean Burger with all the fixings I like - mashed avocado, sliced tomato, hot sauce, lettuce and a bit of Vegenaise. Served with chilled clementine segments and PPK test kitchen blue flannel hash. The chickpea cutlets have some serious competition. These are SO easy to make.

Humdinger

This burger shack should be on everyone's must visit list. The above bacon cheeseburger really did the trick, and the crinkle cut fries were perfect.

Humdingers is primarily a burger shack, and has a wide selection of all the regular toppings. They have something called the "Chuck Wagon" which is actually a Chicken Fried Steak (Whoa!). Also the "Pizza Burger" is calling my name with Chicken Fried Steak, pizza sauce, and cheese. They also have a selection of Hot Dogs, Sides, Fish N' Chips, and Sandwiches.

What is awesome is that you get free fries, tater-tots, chips, chili, green salad, soup, or potato salad with any regular burger.

Notice while you are there the use of puff paint on many an item. Including a t-shirt of Calvin doing some business on the McDonald's logo.

If you have any pics of Humdinger burgers send them our way and we will post them up.

Hot Dogs: Zach's Shack

I know this is all about the Hamburger, but its Labor Day, so a break from the burger is at hand. And why not do it with hamburgers tasty cousin, Hot Dog.

Zach's Shack serves up some tasty Hot Dogs. Pictured above is the "New York Dog" with Cheddar Cheese, Yellow Mustard, Onion, and Chili. It put me back $3.50, but well worth it.

They have quite a selection worth checking out. Chicago Dogs, Sausages, Fries, ect. I have to go back and get the "Dylan Dog" that has cream cheese, onion, and tomato. A friend once told me that cream cheese is actually one of the best condiments for a dog. What do I know? I'm trying it next time.

Check out Alt Portland for a bit more of a review.

Slabtown

Slabtown seems to be having a resurgence since new ownership earlier this year. Lots of bands all the time and a good line-up for next weeks NW Music Fest. The Timbers Army seems to be invading this place as well to watch away games on the big screen.

Their hamburger is pretty damn good, and at the right price. The happy hour burger seen above comes in at a whopping $3.00 (happy hour is 3 to 7pm everyday). Its a straight up burger, handmade with diced onion mixed in. You can add cheese, bacon, egg, as well. Fries are extra, but who is to complain about a $3.00 burger.

PS: It comes on the grill top (thats right, kitchen action photos!)

Steakadelphia

UPDATE: 5/18/08 - CLOSED

This spot is known for the magic of the Philidelphia Cheesesteak (or at least a version of it, its a boring argument already). They have "handmade" burgers as well. Went with a straight-up hamburger and all the condiments. Pretty Good. 1/3 lb. burgers start at $2.99, and are 2 for $4.99 after 4pm.

The bonus here is the selection of add-ons:
Bacon (of course)
Eggs
Philly Steak (whoh!)
Hot Links (whoh!)
Philly Chicken

Now I don't know about you, but some Philly Steak on top of a burger sounds like a winner.

Condiments: Bacon Salt

The above is a promotional video made by Bacon Salt

Why would you have fries when you could have Bacon Fries
Title explains it all. Where in Portland can I get a burger with bacon fries already? Or is this just another form of bacon bits? But wait. It's vegetarian (like Bacos?). I'm confused.

Check out the tasty new product: Bacon Salt

Here is a good review from Bacon Unwrapped and I Heart Bacon

Check out the Bacon Salt Blog for some bonus recipes as well.
