Colorado: Good Times (Denver)

PattyPusher hits up the Burgerville of Colorado:

A familiar sight on Colfax. Good Times is kind of the Burgerville of Denver with seasonal specials, seasoned fries and Coleman Natural Beef. They do still use the plastic cheese though. Oh, and they’re drive through/walk up only.

After ordering a Classic Deluxe with Cheese combo for five bucks (plus tax, forgot about that stuff), PattyPusher contemplated the staggering number of these that he consumed in high school. Wherever his old Volvo is now, it probably still has Good Times wrappers stuffed in some corner that were impossible to remove. This is one of the best fast food burgers out there and comes with all the latest accessories. Ok, well at least LTO, ketchup, mayo and pickles.

Colorado: Ted's Montana Grill (Littleton)

PattyPusher has been out in Colorado this holiday season and shares some of his burgering:

PattyPusher has tasted the burgers of the Colorado Front Range and they are almost as crazy as his family at X-mas time. As soon as said nutters were made aware of his brown biscuit passions plans were laid to procure the most sacred of nourishment at Ed’s, a legendary tavern up in the hills. No lettuce, no tomato, no fries, no high falutin’ micro brews , no f#@&ing around. Closed for a week for the holidays?!?! Dammit! Ok, My Brother’s Bar then, not to be confused with My Father’s Place. What? Also Shuttered?!?! Lunacy!! Conspiracy!!!!

Finally finding a joint that understood that burgers are more important than some dead guy’s birthday, the hamburgling commenced.

Ted’s Montana Grill is apparently a chain with “World Famous” burgers. Mr. Pusher had the Buffalo, Swiss, Mushroom, and Sour cream for a whopping $11.95. One would expect that at that world famous price medium rare would actually be medium rare, but otherwise it was open-a-can-o-whoop-ass kick-ass. Half pound Buffalo patty and the regulars, tasty hand cut fries, and the pickles were obviously in-house made with tons of garlic and coriander. Win!

Tom's Pizza & Sports Pub

Burgermeister and VeggiePatty give us a North Portland update. What? Bacon is a great topping on veggieburgers:

Went to Tom's Pizza & Sports pub on Lombard. There was about 25 big screen tv's which wasn't so bad until the sound went on. Some college football game.

I had the "Rodeo Burger" (first and second pictures), which has cheddar, bbq sauce and bacon. Burgermeister got it with the veggie patty which was just delicious. It comes with a salad or french fries. Got the salad which is topped with every pizza topping known to man.

VeggiePatty got the veggie patty ( um duh! ). She ate it all and said it was good.
that's all.

California: Fonda Restaurant (Berkeley)

You would probably remember Paul Burgerhart from a couple Portland bands years ago, but we won't be re-hashing the past for you here. Just let it be known that he has a "freak folk" voodoo doll and uses it:

Last night me and several companions went to this place. They have a happy hour menu that includes a Cuban Mini-Burger with chorizo, mustard, and sweet potato fries. Also three slices of tart, crunchy pickle on it. The chorizo is mixed in with the burger meat, giving it a spicy, smoky flavor. As you can see from the picture, the thin sweet potato fries are right on the burger and you'd think they'd be pointy and pokey, but they actually blend in and add a nice texture to the burger.

Of the 5 and 6 buck items on the Happy Hour menu (which includes a couple different kindsa tacos and mayan hot sauce hot wings), this is the best with the big, strong margaritas. My companion liked the wings a lot. There are also 8 other 5-dollar drink specials, some of them are semi-fancy. Liveley, noisy, fun place.

Nightlight Lounge

Burgermeister gets up around 2 or 3pm and likes to call this breakfast. She drags PattyMelt out and is fulfilling all those threats of using a digital camera for more sliders:

Burgermeister and PattyMelt went to the nightlight. PattyMelt had the crab cake sliders, Burgermeister the regular sliders.

Tasty and satisfying.

Dark candlelit atmosphere, friendly and competent server, smoking and non smoking sections. Altogether a perfect burgering experience.

Cafe Castagna: UPDATED 12.21.07

UPDATE: 12.21.07

Burgermeister and BurgerPolicy revisit one the top dogs in town:

These burgers are like butter.

ORIGINAL POST: 9.18.07

Delicious hamburger action. "Hamburgler" and "Pickles & Ammo" participate in burger consumption at Cafe Castagna. This place is so clean that you think it might not be any good, but the theory doesn't hold. This burger holds up to its reputation.

Hamburger and fries starts at $11.00. Add cheese and bacon for a $1.00 each.

Special Bonus Pickle!

Mike's Drive-In: UPDATED 12.21.07

Hamburgler chimes in:

Not bad. Reminds us of how A&W/Dairy Queen use to be when they were small town diners serving up the soft serve (dipped please). $7.20 on this "basket" of bacon cheeseburger with fries, coleslaw, and drink. Patty is paper thin, but fulfills.

ORIGINAL POST: 10/4/2007

CondimentSpreader is still out there burgering and eating foreign objects.

Just south of Tacoma St. in Sellwood is Mike's Drive In. Another old-school joint, but no longer delivering curbside on skates.

Extensive menu with no less than 12 burger jump off points.

I had the mushroom with swiss. Have to say it started out as one of the better burgers I've tasted, although somewhat suffering from the 'soggy bun' syndrome, which I can work around. At some point I started wondering about a mushroom that I was having trouble chewing down. Turned out to be a rather large chunk of thick plastic. (see pic)

I really want to like the place, but when I informed the counterperson of my woe, she sorta shrugged it off and said, "oh sweetie, that's probably just from when they take the patties outta the pan....".

Inexpensive and tasty, but still...

Blueplate

SpecialSauce (got a break from all that modeling for Sweetpea Bicycles) and the Hamburgler continued the slider quest at Blueplate:

These sliders were fantastic. Some kind of basil secret sauce made it all worth the trip. $6.00 for 2 sliders with mashed potatoes. Add bacon or tomato for $1.00.

Would have to agree with Food and Ink that this place is pumping out better burgers on a electric skillet then many places around town. Go figure.

Singapore: Relish

Wouldn't it be fun to go overseas and sample versions of hamburgers? More over at Chubby Hubby (great food blog) has the goods in Singapore. Spiced Lamb Pitta Burgers w/ Mint, BBQ Char-Siew Pork Burgers, Seafood Burger w/ Lemon Mayo, and Curry Chicken Burgers. And finally, something that seems to properly bridge the gap between breakfast and burgers...the Malaysian Ramly Burger (its in that second pic).

Ya, I know. Where is Carpinteria? Its south of Toro Canyon, thats south of Summerland, thats south of Montecito, that is south of Santa Barbara. Its all one big suburb anyways.

BurgerBlogger fills us in:

My only good shot of the Pastrami, Guacamole, and Cheeseburger from "The Spot" in Carpinteria right by the beach.

SUPER GOOD. I worked in Carpinteria for about a month and had a few of these burgers...

Art: Burger Murals

When art and burgers collide:

The cheeseburgers are part of a large collaborative mural that myself (Hilary Pollack), Juan Gabe, and Daniel Anderson put together for an art show at Worth Ryder Gallery in Berkeley in February 2007. I did the cheeseburgers as well as the girl and the toenails.

California: Canters Deli

We are starting to get a bit worried about BurgerBlogger's colon. He's a soldier though, and has the daunting challenge of sampling Southern California (the hamburger mecca of the world) burgers.:

So Ryan B and I went to Canters Deli and ordered the burger. Hooked it up propa. Add jack and cheddar and Pastrami. Really good.

We sat at the bar on Sunday night and listened to some good comedian folks. I gotta big up the bartenders and Ryan B for giving a hand with the lighting of the burger shot.

The bartender said that Carl's Jr. shot their ad for the pastrami burger there.

Filled Burger Mallow Candy

Hamburgler finds some burger-theme candy at Fubonn Supermarket on SE 82nd:

Fubonn is huge, and who can deny a supermarket with a whole isle of Asian candy to choose from.

When you are standing in an isle of food that is all in a foreign language you really start to think about packaging and how it drives your eye from product to product. What a great moment to have a burger jump out at you when you least expect it.

At first I thought this was going to be an actual burger flavored candy....one can still dream. The "Filled Burger Mallow" is actually little burger shaped marshmallows with orange filling.

The Trap

CondimentSpreader continues digging deeper into Southeast Portland:

Foster pretty much blows, but with a nice burger, it didn't seem so bad after all.

The Trap is an interesting little bar with a fair amount of charm. Apparently they cater to the dart-playing crowd with a ton of boards and trophies about.

Eight different burger options with the usual suspects and a few I had to inquire about. Had to roll with the 'Frisco Burger', which I found, was made with wide sourdough grilled and buttered bread, two patties(side by side), and melted swiss. A tiny bit non-traditional but really nice. Suggested.
